Lady Park Wood

In 2017 a project with The Arborealists in collaboration with ecologist George Peterkin began. Lady Park Wood is a protected, unmanaged woodland that George has been studying for over 40 years now. The aim of the project, in conjunction with a book that George was writing, was to raise awareness of the woodland study and to promote its’ continuation by other ecologists.

At Lady Park Wood the whole sensory experience is infused with the sounds of the River Wye (Afon Gwy)that runs beneath it in the valley below.

‘Visiting Lady Park Wood as a group felt like a wonderful privilege, both because making paintings is often a very solitary occupation and also because this wood is generally closed off to the outside world. The amount of inspiration that I derived from this site has not yet been exhausted. At this wonderful wood one of my preoccupations was to draw out a sense of the lives of those trees.’
