Caithness, Scotland

I was invited to Caithness - a generous residency. There were few trees but the landscape and the skies were beguiling enough to keep me busy in my endeavours to interpret that rugged place with all of its sense of history and the wildness of the wind. This project is ongoing and these are just a few of the sketches I made whilst there. I will update it with new images as they become available.

Caithness is a word that you may associate with fine glass or with Britain’s northern most point. Visually it is skies, edges and peat.

‘The contrast between Caithness and Cornwall could not be more striking. In Caithness I found myself always looking far away and up into expansive and ever changing sky. If Britain were a giant then Cornwall exists between his toes and Caithness rides high upon his sparsely covered head.’
